In Grygla, we've got plenty of reasons to celebrate Great Outdoors Month.
Governor Tim Walz has officially proclaimed June 2025 as Great Outdoors Month in the State of Minnesota, and here in Grygla, we’ve got plenty of reasons to celebrate.
Our little town may be small, but it’s big on outdoor adventure. Whether you’re into slow strolls or high-octane rides, there’s something for everyone to enjoy under our wide northern skies.
Start with a peaceful walk through town or along the scenic hiking trail that hugs the river. Prefer something with a little more zip? Grygla is home to the Fourtown/Grygla Sportsman’s Club trail system, offering roughly 170 miles of ATV trails. Much of this extensive system follows county roads, township roads, ditch banks and existing trails. County ordinances allow ATVs to operate on the far right side of the travel lane; highway-licensed vehicles share parts of the route, so it’s important to use caution and stay alert while riding.
You can also hop on your bike for a ride through fresh country air. Our two community parks offer space to relax, with picnic shelters, playgrounds, a campground and room to roam for the whole family.
Get your game on at the football and baseball fields or head over to the sand volleyball courts. If you’re more into hoops or rackets, we’ve got basketball, tennis and pickleball courts ready for action.
Water lovers aren’t left out, either. The Mud River invites you to kayak, canoe or cast a line, while the Fourtown gravel pit is perfect for swimming, relaxing or fishing close to home.
And don’t forget the wildlife! Grygla is surrounded by natural beauty and lots of different animals.....from deer and elk to moose, bear, ducks and geese. Just west of town lies Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge, a true gem for nature watchers and photographers alike.
Or simply take the long way home…a drive past our lush, green farmlands (now in their summer growing stage), is a soothing reminder of the rhythms of rural life.
So this June, step outside. Breathe it in. Whether it’s a solo walk, a family picnic or a paddle down the river, the great outdoors are calling. And in Grygla, they’re never far away.
